THE SPECTRUM GAME DATABASE

GO BEAR GO!

PUBLISHER
It was on the cover of Sinclair User as part of Megatape 1. Does
anybody know which issue that is?

AUTHOR

YEAR

DESCRIPTION
Go Bear Go is a version of Pengo, which takes place on a top-down
screen where you have to push blocks into the nasties. It also
contains a level editor.

CONTROLS
The keyboard controls are as follows:-
Q - Up
A - Down
O - Left
P - Right
M - Push/break

INSTRUCTIONS
When the game has first loaded, you are presented with the game's
loading screen. Press any key to access the menu. From here you
have four options, selected by pressing 1 - 4. However, options
3 and 4 are probably useless since they load/save the game to
tape which need not be done if playing on an emulator.

The Game
The game is accessed by selecting the first option from the menu.
The objective of each level is to get the three white crates
(marked with the letters SU for obvious reasons) into a line,
whether horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Hindering you in this
misson are the nasties which roam the warehouse, destroying
random block. If they touch the bear then he will lose one of
his lives.

To push/destroy a crate, you must walk up to it and press
Push/break at the same time as a direction in which you want to
push. If there is a crate behind the one being pushed, then the
crate being pushed will be destroyed. If there is no crate
behind it, then the crate being pushed will slide across the map
until it hits another crate or one of the baddies, in which case
it will kill it.

Once all three SU crates are in a line then you will go onto the
next level. Be careful that the SU crates do not hit the edge
of the screen otherwise you will not be able to push them away.

The Level Editor
The level editor is accessed by selecting number 2 from the main
menu. As soon as you select it you are presented with the first
level of the game. Your movement controls now control the
flashing square. To change the level, simply move the square to
what you want to change, and press the appropriate key, a list
of which can be seen by pressing H for help. To move between the
levels simply press J or K.

When you quit the level editor, you will go back to the main
menu. Selecting the game will allow you to play your new levels.

CHEATS

SEQUELS/PREQUELS
There are probably many other versions of Pengo available on the
Spectrum, but no names spring to mind.

GENERAL FACTS
There is only one other game to feature the (irritating :-)) SU
icon Kamikaze Bear. This other game, called Bear a Grudge, is a
version of Space Harrier.
