Use of Pipedream as an Outliner ------------------------------- I've been a great fan of outline processors (ThinkTank, Ready! and PC-Outline for MS-DOS; Think-It, Thought for for the Model 100/102) for several years. These programs allow you to brainstorm, move ideas around and generally organize your though processes. To date, there is no outline processor available for the Z88. Recently, I have started to use PipeDream to emulate an outliner. Some features are not practical (e.g., Hide and Show of subheadings), but effective results are attainable. Here's how I do it. First, create a "template" by going to Pipedream and setting up a series of columns of width 3; note that you may want to use <>EAC command to add more columns to the right. Then make sure the final column is wide enough so that the right margin is at about the 70th column (in fact, set the right margins for all columns to the same value using the []<- and []-> key combinations ([] = square and -> = right cursor). You may also want to use the options page (<>O) to set 'no wrap'. I have uploaded my outline template here as TEMPLATE.OTL; note that it is an ASCII PipeDream file. Now selecting outline heading levels is just a matter of using TAB to indent right and SHIFT-TAB to undent left. This system has lots of limitations when compared to "real" outliners. But until someone gives us a "real" one, this approach is sure better than nothing. ------------ Phil Wheeler 22 Feb 1989 Cleveland, OH
