It may also be worth trying the files on other printers using HP emulations. %H2%Z174B%H2% HP Cat This file, written in BASIC, demonstrates the graphics printing capabilities of the printer. To use, have the DJ500 on line and enter BASIC, at the prompt type %H2%LOAD "LIBRARY/Z174B"%H2%. Once loaded type %H2%RUN%H2%, answer the prompt, and watch the screen. This will report the speed of sending the graphics to the printer, about 9 seconds, whilst the printer will print the demonstration in about 12 seconds. The screen clears after a further 20 seconds. The program is developed from the listing in the HP DJ 500 Technical Reference Manual, pages 8-24/26. (Part Nr C1206-90030) The program is also discussed in my Notes on Printing, pages 41 - 42. All graphic codes Dec 10 and higher are listed in Hex, i.e. Dec 10 = Hex (&0A), this will make comparison with the original list easier. Also, compression method 3 has been converted to uncompressed codes so that the program should run on a wide range of Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printers, as well as earlier DeskJets and emulations. %H2%Z174C%H2% HP Printer Driver This is a printer driver that I currently use for my Notes on Printing. Whilst it is not essential to load this prior to printing file Z174D it will ensure that the file prints as I intend. %H2%WARNING!%H2% I still suffer from the odd %H4%FAIL%H4% message so ensure that suspended activities are saved prior to entering the PrinterEd. To use, enter the Printer Editor, if you have made any changes to your current PD save it. Load the file, %H2%<>FL Z174C%H2% and update the Printer Editor with %H2%<>FU%H2%. %H2%Z174D%H2% Supplement 2 from my Notes on Printing. This supplement specifically deals with my experience of the DJ 500. Read it on screen and print it as well. Pages 3 and 4 are designed to be printed back to back. The actual embedded codes will control the printer and the explanation codes will print out. Page 2 will allow you to print the file without installing Z174c.PDR as the printer driver. However, it is then likely that the secondary font will not work as planned nor will the black squares ( and used to represent the ESC code in the embedded codes) print as planned. The %H2%Notes on Printing%H2% are available to club members for 5.00 inc. P&P. Please write to me, David Stewart, at %C%44 Margetts, Hemingford Grey, Huntingdon, Cambs.
